The Pro and Cons of E-Book Readers

Ebook readers are all the rage with many people regardless of age. These gadgets, as is to be expected, have both positives and negatives associated with their use. As such, there are those persons who love them and wonder what they used to do before they were invented. There are a few people that are not impressed.

Why people Like Ebooks

There are many reasons why some folks love their eBook readers, whether or not it is a Kindle from Amazon, a Barnes and Noble Nook or a SonyPRS-505 Reader. Devices like the iPad and smartphones can be used to read books. Some of the reasons for their popularity are:

1. They are portable, so that they can be taken anywhere.

2. An ebook reader has no issue with data storage or excess weight

3. Ebooks are a lot cheaper than printed books

4. Proper lighting is no longer an issue as the readers have light that can be adjusted. Many avid readers can even read in bed without turning on the light switch.

5. It is possible to make notes while reading just like with a printed book, with the added bonus of removing the notes if you want.

6. They are environmentally friendly.

Lovers of ebooks and readers would agree about all of these and then some.

Disadvantages of Ebooks

There are of course some negatives to using these devices such as:

1. There are no physical pages to turn which is part of the pleasure of reading for some people.

2. They can cause eye strain.

3. Like any other device that uses software there are bugs that can cause issues such as freezing up or slowing down.

4. The battery can be exhausted at inopportune moments.

Like everything else in life, ebook readers serve their purpose. Time will tell if they ultimately change the way most of us read books.
