Deciding to become a nursing is an excellent career decision. Not only are nurses in high demand, they also get to work with and help all types of people on a daily basis. Therefore, as a nurse you will not only enjoy a stable career, but you will also enjoy an emotionally rewarding profession.
There are two ways to become a nurse. You can choose to become a Licensed Practical Nurse, or LPN, or a Registered Nurse, or RN.
To become an RN, you will have to earn a four year degree. It may also be necessary for you to pass the National League for Nursing Exam before admittance to nursing school.
To become an LPN, you only need a two year degree. While the time spent earning the degree is considerably shorter than if you were to earn become an RN, you will still enjoy some of the benefits RNs enjoy, such as a high demand for your services. However, you will probably not make as much money or have as many career options available to you.
Both RNs and LPNs must have a high school diploma or GED before starting their nursing programs. After graduation, RNs must pass the NCLEX, which stands for National Council Licensure Examination, to qualify for employment as a registered nurse.
Both RNs and LPNs enjoy a fantastic job outlook in the future. As the population ages, demand for their services will only increase. Practice careful consideration when deciding which degree to get, as they both have positive benefits.
