It’s hard not to strive for the greatest. In fact, it would be imprudent if you didn’t attempt to be your ultimate self. The greatest to strive for in terms of medical schools, though, is pretty great. It’s not a piece of cake to get into Harvard University in general; and it’s even more difficult to get into the Harvard medical program. But it’s possible. It’s crucial to know what you should strive toward — other than general greatness — so the following list presents the top medical schools in the United States in terms of research.
1. Harvard University: Located in Boston, Massachusetts, the Harvard University Medical School has only about 735 students. The few amounts of students along with the high ranking of the school make getting into Harvard extremely difficult. Of the approximately 5,500 people who apply annually, Harvard accepts around 250.
2. Johns Hopkins University: Around 475 students popular the JHU Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland. The school offers many PhD programs such as biochemistry, public health, history of science and biophysics. The admissions rate is about the same as Harvard, although only about 120 new students enroll in the program annually. JHU’s reputation is immaculate and tends to focus on society and the implications of medicine.
3. University of Pennsylvania: Of the top three medical schools, the University of Pennsylvania has the largest medical student body at around 700 students. The university focuses on biomedical sciences and has several substantial facilities. PhDs are offered in public policy and management, immunology, health care systems and pharmacological sciences, among others.
4. Washington University in St. Louis: This St. Louis, Missouri private university is home to about 580 medical students. The focus of the school is on patient care, but PhDs are offered in several fields. The professors are world-renowned and serious about education. And with a student to teacher ratio of 2:1, it’s easy to see why.
All four top medical schools have high tuition and little financial aid, but with dedication and intelligence, anyone can attend.
