The advantages of being a nurse are copious. The average salary is respectable, the job security is significant and the hours are flexible. While you will need a good education in order to break into the field, unlike becoming a doctor, you don’t have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to do so. Not every nursing school is as affordable as the schools identified in the following list, but it’s beneficial to know there are cheaper ways to obtain your dream job.
* Bringham Young University: Located in Provo, Utah, BYU is a nationally recognized university with an acclaimed nursing school. BYU is ranked 72nd for best nursing programs in the country. BYU offers both bachelors and masters in nursing. Most importantly, the nursing program costs less than $5,000 a year for both in-state and out-of-state students.
* Baptist College of Health Sciences: This Christian centered Tennessee college offers a nursing program for less than $10,000 a year. At Baptist College, students can receive the regular bachelor or science in nursing, but they are given choices for specialization.
* Alcorn State University: If you live in Mississippi, you can essentially become a nurse for less than $10,000. Out of state students will pay higher tuition, but the cost is still relatively low. Alcorn State offers associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree and master’s degree nursing programs.
At some higher-ranked nursing schools, students pay as much as $30,000 a year. Why do that when you can receive an exceptional education for much less? The esteem of graduating from a university with a well-known name and program is satisfying, but if you’re able to receive a comparable education for a fraction of the cost, it seems silly to pay so much.
